A free preview session of an online course on tunnelling will be held on October 21 for 45 minutes in the latest collaboration in the world of engineering between the Webuild Group and the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). The course is an extension of a partnership formed in 2018 between the Group and the UTS to promote engineering as a career and contribute to the development of public infrastructure in Australia.  It also joins a series of short online professional training courses created as a result of the COVID-19 emergency that requires social distancing and smart working.

The preview session – from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sydney time (9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Milan time) - will introduce Webuild and elaborate on the contents of the course, such as tunnel construction and tunnel boring machines (TBMs). The next training session will be held on October 29 to review the different types of TBMs, with another on November 5 to discuss the Third Intake at Lake Mead, a record-breaking, award-winning project by Webuild that oversaw the excavation of a tunnel 200 metres deep to guarantee the water supply of Las Vegas from the artificial lake of the same name.

The complete course, which will be held in 2021, will last two days and consist of six training modules.

Webuild considers Australia a strategic market. Among the investments it is making in the country is its promotion of STEM skills among young students. It is building Snowy 2.0, the biggest hydropower project of its kind in the country, and the Forrestfield-Airport Link, a light transit rail that will connect the eastern suburbs of Perth with the airport and the central business district. In Sydney, the Group built the skytrain bridge and viaduct for Sydney Metro Northwest.
