Webuild projects in Western Australia

Airport Central Station, Forrestfield Airport Link railway line, Perth

As we expand our Group’s presence in Western Australia, we are ready to deliver the challenging and rewarding projects supporting the state’s future, communities, and people.

Through the acquisition of Clough, founded in Perth, Western Australia in 1919, we are now one of the longest standing engineering and construction companies in the country. What began with the construction of one of Perth’s first high rise buildings, has grown into a strong legacy of iconic projects that have helped shape the face of modern WA.

Our footprint spans the state, from the Narrows Bridge across the city and the Stirling Bridge in Fremantle, to the Barrow Island Oilfield, and the Graham Farmer Tunnel; we were pivotal in the development of the state’s iron ore and LNG industries, and have adapted, overcome, and transformed to get to where we are today.

Delivering one of WA’s most successful projects

Webuild delivered the design and construction of the Forrestfield Airport Link railway line connecting Perth's eastern suburbs with the existing suburban rail network and the airport.

The Forrestfield-Airport Link was the first rail project in Western Australia to achieve the highest classification, a Leading Rating through the As Built Rating system, delivering a sustainable legacy for the State.

Completed in October 2022, this award-winning project, has transformed transportation in Perth, generating 20,000 passenger trips on the network every day, reducing road traffic, and reducing travelling times to the city centre by over 50% - from 45 minutes, down to just 20 minutes.

Building one of the largest urea plants in the world

Located on the Burrup Peninsula, approximately 20 kilometres north of Karratha on the Western Australia coast, the Project Ceres urea plant will be the largest in Australia and one of the largest in the world.

Under construction by Saipem Clough joint Venture, the contract involved the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Pre-commissioning, and Commissioning of the plant, which will have a production capacity of more than 2 million metric tons of urea per year.

The plant will produce fertiliser from urea by transforming natural gas into ammonia and then into urea. The instalment of SynCOR Ammonia™ technology from Topsoe will make Ceres the largest ammonia plant in the world on a single synthesis reactor, while the production process of urea will use Snamprogetti™ proprietary technology.

The plant will have a control system to ensure that the urea produced will be of the highest quality. It will also have will be on the avantgarde in terms of energy efficiency and emission reduction, with a design to minimise the carbon footprint of its production of fertiliser. Perdaman and the joint-venture have a commitment to make the plant net carbon zero by 2050.

Building WA’s largest wastewater treatment facility

The Woodman Point Water Recovery Facility Upgrade project will transform the Perth Facility into the largest wastewater treatment facility in Western Australia. serving industrial, commercial and residential customers of Perth’s southern metropolitan region.

The contract is the latest in a series of upgrades being conducted by the Water Corporation at the Facility.

The upgrade will enable the facility to treat 120 tonnes of dried solids per day. The biosolids can be used for agricultural purposes, such as soil conditioning. Another by-product of the treatment process is biogas, which can be used as a source of energy.

The upgrade will include the incorporation of Thermal Hydrolysis Pre-Treatment technology, a new dewatered sludge receival facility, a new solids thickening and dewatering system and a new odour treatment provisions.
